Nutrition/Fitness

Nutrition is my passion!
I feel like a very lucky person to have found something that absolutely fascinates me. I know what I want to be in life and that is awesome!
I love food and it makes me feel amazing when I know I am eating right and giving my body what it deserves. This also pertains to exercise as well. I love the way I feel after a good workout.
I am also a vegetarian and proud to be one. It's a very rare day if I crave meat and it really has opened my eyes to the awesomeness that are vegetables. Before, I never really liked red meat or pork, I mostly ate chicken and turkey. The amount of vegetables that I liked or even tried was a puny list which is embarrassing to say now. I have discovered so many more foods now and my taste buds have a ball!
My only obstacle is money since I have a low paying part-time job and I work a small amount of hours a week due to school. But somehow I manage to survive and buy a good amount of healthy foods. But I am greedy and want more! I yearn the day when I am a RD with a good salary to where I can buy all the health foods I want. But until then, I make do.

Exercise in my life

I remember a time where I neevr set out to exercise at all and I never even thought I would be a person that would go to a gym. I have always been a bit thicker than most which is the trend with most of my family, except my skinny cousin but it was always normal to us. I was never athletic. As much as my Dad hoped I would end up a ball player (I ran away scared everytime he threw a ball at me) or a basketaball player (not that talented and tall enough) or a professional woman golfer (I don't hate golf, I just don't have the time or money to spend on it).
So I found activity in other ways. I ended up cheerleading for 9 years which was exercise no matter what anybody thinks. We danced, we conditioned, we worked out and we practiced and stunted. I wasn't skinny but I was strong. High school came around and I stopped cheerleading. Four years of no exercise at all and I definitely  ate whatever I wanted. It wasn't until college that I went to a gym. Our student recreation center was a fascinating place to me. At first the only thing I did there was attend the nightly group exercise classes like the ab class or the step class. This was fun but the more I went the more I wanted to gain from going.
Since then I have really stepped up and now I go to the gym regularly during the week and try my hardest to go on the weekends especially if I am not working. I have also attended Zumba classes off-campus which are extraordinarily fun. It's the kind of exercise that doesn't feel like exercise. Yoga is something I enjoy as well, because it's a form of stress relief. There was a semester that I went twice a week because my schedule was so hectic and I had so much school work to do. It is my plan to always incorporate exercise into my life, no matter how busy I am.
Today, I enjoy going to the gym using the typical elliptical and bike. I also like running on the treadmill. Some people hate this and I can understand but somehow I love how I can keep track of how far I've ran and in how much time it has taken me to do it. This pushes me to go further than I originally planned every time. 5ks are coming up and I hope to participate in at least one this year.
I am currently enrolled in a weight training class which has shown me the proper way to lift weights and I absolutely love it! It's amazing to see how much stronger you become in only a matter of weeks.
I also enjoy Yoga classes and Zumba classes for a some fun cardio. I try to attend these at least once a week.
